This project felt like a natural progression from the simple forms of seedheads and grasses I'd used previously. I wanted to create more sculptural forms and started to look at the shapes of daisies and dandelions for inspiration. I especially like the aesthetic created when the petals start to fall away from the flower head, creating long, loose curves. I felt this design needed a pop of colour and the vintage plastic I had been experimenting with worked perfectly. I have tried using modern acrylics but the colours felt too bright and harsh. Vintage plastics such as Bakelite, Casein and Lucite come in a range of far more subtle colours, which contrast perfectly with the silver. These colourful, sculptural forms make the perfect statement brooch.
