Alliums are by far my favourite spring flower, with their large, spherical heads on tall, thin stems, they are like having mini sculptures all over the garden. I wanted to create a large statement brooch, using these plants as my inspiration. After much experimenting in the workshop I came up with the perfect way for creating the flower heads, melting down scrap silver and hammering it out again into misshapen discs. Although this is quite labour intensive, it creates the perfect texture and shape, which helps to give the flowerhead more depth. I also wanted to add colour to the brooches to draw the eye in, and achieved this with Czechoslovakian vintage glass in bright shades of green and yellow set in a silver bezel. Using the same technique I have gone on to develop the range to include rings and earrings.
